About

It took the Eagles a few albums to attain supergroup status, but once they did, they soared into the stratosphere, dominating charts in the second half of the ’70s with the albums One of These Nights, Their Greatest Hits (1971-1975), Hotel California and The Long Run. But even they couldn’t have predicted they’d still be running this long, nearly four decades after they emerged from the SoCal country-rock scene with their self-titled debut, and 16 years after pulling off one heckuva magic trick: the freezing of hell, which precipitated their ’90s reunion after an acrimonious split. Though their 1994 “Hell Freezes Over” tour was the first to charge triple-digit ticket prices, it sold out everywhere. Thirteen years after releasing the accompanying album, they got around to following it up with Long Road Out of Eden. Proving they were still able to make bold marketing moves and come out on top, the Eagles gave Walmart exclusive first rights to the double disc—which of course debuted at No. 1 anyway and became the third-best-selling album of 2007, despite being released on Oct. 30. (Their Greatest Hits is the top-selling album of all time in the U.S.) Texas native Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Schmit have a huge repertoire to pull from, but they know what fans come to hear, and are certain to toss plenty of hits onto their set list. Requests, anyone? How about “Hotel California,” “Desperado,” “On the Border,” “Ol’ ’55,” “Take It to the Limit,” “One Of These Nights,” “Take It Easy,” “Witchy Woman,” “Peaceful Easy Feeling,” “New Kid in Town” or “I Can’t Tell You Why”? And of course, “The Long Run.”
