Sol Kitchen

Denton, TX

About

Sol Kitchen is an improv funk group from Denton, TX, made up of musicians from various local bands and UNT jazz students taking the "How to perform drunk" 4000 level elective. It's not just a funk band, though - Its more like a party. Most bands thrive on applause and recognition, we thrive on beer and jagermeister. No set list or lineup has ever been the same but, the one constant is the inability to stop your ass from shaking. Taken from the personal diary of Captain Brown Eye (of the Scuba Cong): Sol Kitchen was formed in 2002 by gar4ett (drums), DJ Kobee (wheels of steel), and Carlos Kirk (saxophone) almost by accident. Cantina Del Sol was the first venue to feature the trio, tucking them away in a smokey, dark corner of the bar. After the gig, the performers, bar staff (and whoever else stuck around afterward) would sneak into the kitchen, engage in illicit, unmentionable activities and, after a while began referring to the group as the Sol Kitchen. Sol Kitchen, as it is known now, is a tightly woven network of musicians, well versed in the art of improvisational music, who come together with the express purpose of funking you (the people) to deaf. Be prepared to experience a slight tingling sensation the first time you step into the Kitchen. Don't be alarmed, though, its just your funk gland adjusting to the high level of stimulation. Leave the livestock at home, they'll have plenty.
