About

For nearly two decades, Austin’s The Band of Heathens have carved their own lane—pairing sharp songwriting with a sound that’s long outpaced the Americana curve. With their upcoming album, Country Sides, the band reflects on 20 years of building something entirely their own. Formed in 2005, the Heathens broke through with their soulful blend of country and rock, earning memorable spots on Austin City Limits and growing a loyal fan base one show at a time. Though the lineup has evolved, founding songwriters Ed Jurdi and Gordy Quist remain the creative core, shaping the band’s voice and steady rise. A DIY ethos has always defined the Heathens—no label machine, no shortcuts, just an unwavering commitment to honest, organic music. That independence is woven throughout Country Sides, an 11-song collection pulled from dozens written during a period of looking inward and taking stock. Recorded at Quist’s Austin-area studio, the album explores themes of time, struggle, love, and the band’s own winding journey. Tracks like “Take The Cake,” “Pleasing People,” and “High On Our Own Supply” reflect both personal truths and the broader story of a group that has always followed instinct over industry.

Watch videos of The Band of Heathens playing a Shiner Beer Session at The Do512 Lounge!
