Shrek Rave

Shrek Rave is an event held annually across North America and the UK. As the name implies, it is a dance festival consisting of remixes of songs featured throughout the Shrek franchise among other activities. Attendees are also encouraged to cosplay as Shrek and/or Fairy Tale characters. <br><br> Beginning in the 2020s, Shrek Raves began to be held in certain parts of the U.S. Much like the initially ironic competitive scene for Shrek Super Slam, these festivals would become so viral to the point of becoming a regular event. All of the Shrek Raves have varied depending on venues, but often follow the same basic structure- being Shrek-themed and immersing patrons into electrified music inspired by the franchise. <br><br> Among the music are highlights featuring different activities. These include onion-eating contests (a staple for most Shrek meme-related festivities), dance-offs, and a real-life version of Far Far Away Idol, where guests can sing songs dressed as iconic Shrek characters. Specialty cocktails are also served for guests over 21 in the U.S. <br><br> In 2022, a tamer version of the Shrek Rave was part of an official premiere for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Due to this being part of a more family-oriented event, it was limited to a DJ playing remixes of Shrek music. The following year, venues would begin featuring guests who were involved with the making of the Shrek films. Vicky Jenson (director of the original Shrek) and Conrad Vernon (voice of Gingy and director of Shrek 2) made appearances thanking the devotion of the fans and keeping the legacy alive (even if it was mostly ironic).
