About

This year’s edition of Spanish Cinema Now + in Dallas presents a showcase of films that reflects the breadth of styles and talents at work in Spain today, including both established auteurs and emerging filmmakers from the international festival scene. After its presentation in Washington, DC, the Meadows Museum will bring these films to Texas thanks to a partnership with the Cultural Office of the Embassy of Spain and Dallas Film. Thursday, June 4 | 7:00 p.m. The Flamenco Guitar of Yerai Cortés / La guitarra flamenca de Yerai Cortés (2024) directed by C. Tangana This documentary combines the power of music with a heavy family secret that must finally be revealed. Starring Yerai Cortés, a leading figure in Spain’s contemporary flamenco scene, the film explores passion, love, and forgiveness as the protagonist confronts hidden truths. Wrapped in a unique musical experience, the story highlights flamenco as a vital means of expression while addressing Yerai’s internal conflict. La guitarra flamenca de Yerai Cortés won Best Documentary Film at the 39th Goya Awards and Cineuropa declared it a “dazzling and powerful directorial debut”, that “manages to go beyond the usual documentary to reflect the beauty and pain that often exist in human relationships.” Spain’s Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts rates this film ICAA 7+ (not recommended for audiences under seven years of age), but the Meadows Museum screening is intended for mature audiences only. 95 minutes | Spanish with English subtitles Watch trailer
