Kid Cudi is a Brooklyn-based rapper from Cleveland whose debut single, "Day 'n' Nite," became an online favorite in 2008. Born Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi in suburban Cleveland, his career took off after he moved to Brooklyn and became affiliated with Fool's Gold, the label of DJs A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs. The label released the Day 'n' Nite EP in February 2008 and circulated a Crookers remix around the blogosphere, drumming up a good deal of buzz in the process. It didn't hurt that Kid Cudi began to receive increasing press attention, including a nod from Rolling Stone (which touted him among the magazine's Top Five best indie hip-hop artists of 2008). Not long after the release of "Day 'n' Nite," Kid Cudi began touring with the Fool's Gold collective, which performed at a South by Southwest showcase and subsequently joined forces with Steve Aoki and his Dim Mak collective for a North American tour. After the remixed version of "Day 'n' Nite" climbed the U.K. singles charts, Kid Cudi released his conceptual debut album, Man on the Moon: The End of Day, in the summer of 2009. A year later he returned with a sequel, Man on the Moon, Vol. 2: The Legend of Mr. Rager. In 2012, he teamed with "Day 'n' Nite" producer Dot Da Genius and introduced their rock-rap band, WZRD. A year after that, Indicud arrived and included contributions from soft rock sisters Haim and former Fleet Foxes' drummer Father John Misty, alongside rappers A$AP Rocky and Kendrick Lamar. In early 2014, Cudi surprised fans by dropping the next installment in his space odyssey with little warning. Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon, which features a guest spot from Raphael Saadiq, was issued on February 25 on Wicked Awesome/Republic.

Mathangi "Maya" Arulpragasam (born 18 July 1975) better known by her stage name M.I.A., is a British recording artist, songwriter, painter and director. The moniker "M.I.A." is both a play on her own name and a reference to the abbreviation for Missing in Action. Her compositions combine elements of electronic, dance, alternative, hip hop and world music. Arulpragasam began her career in 2000 as a visual artist, filmmaker and designer in west London before beginning her recording career in 2002. Since rising to prominence in early 2004 for her singles "Sunshowers" and "Galang", charting in the UK and Canada and reaching number 11 on the Billboard Hot Dance Singles Sales in the US, she has been nominated for an Academy Award, two Grammy Awards and the Mercury Prize.

Outside his primary roles as André 3000's partner in OutKast and as one of the central members of the Dungeon Family, Big Boi (born Antwan André Patton) appeared on tracks by Missy Elliott ("All N My Grill"), Trick Daddy ("In da Wind"), Jay-Z ("Poppin' Tags"), Killer Mike ("A.D.I.D.A.S."), Beyoncé ("Hip Hop Star"), Brooke Valentine ("Girlfight"), Sleepy Brown ("Margarita"), and Fantasia ("Hood Boy"). As a solo artist, the MC had a minor hit in 2005 with "Kryptonite (I'm on It)," one of the year's best rap singles; it was the lead single from the officially released showcase for his Purple Ribbon label, the eclectic Got Purp?, Vol. 2, which featured the likes of Killer Mike and Sleepy Brown, as well as Janelle Monáe. Also involved in film (ATL, OutKast's Idlewild, Who's Your Caddy?) and even the stage (he worked with the Atlanta Ballet in 2008), Big Boi prepped his first solo album, Sir Luscious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, which is due for release in 2010.
